The municipality of Veľké Ludince in Levice district was without electric power on Tuesday, July 19, after a huge whirlwind and hailstorm on Monday damaged wiring. The main local road was also closed.
Zita Cseri, the mayor of the village, summoned a crisis staff meeting. The hailstorm, although it lasted just three minutes, destroyed trees in a local park and also some roofs, the Sme daily wrote in its Wednesday, July 20, issue. In some places, the supply of gas had to be disconnected due to potential damage and risk of explosion. Sme reported that it will probably take several days for life in the village to return to normal.
