The president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Minh Triet, began a three-day visit to Slovakia on December 16. A series of intergovernmental co-operation agreements is expected to be signed between the countries during Triet's official visit. Vietnamese delegates include public officials as well as entrepreneurs who will meet with their Slovak counterparts at an economic forum planned to take place at the Bôrik Hotel in Bratislava, the TASR newswire wrote.
On December 17, the Vietnamese head of state will meet for talks with Slovakia’s most senior officials: President Ivan Gašparovič, Speaker of Parliament Pavol Paška and Prime Minister Robert Fico at a working lunch.
“In the Asian region Vietnam represents a significant economic partner for Slovakia. Among the positives from the former period are the many Vietnamese citizens who in the era of Czechoslovakia acquired education or qualifications and who now hold senior posts in the government and business sector (in Vietnam),” reads a press release by Gašparovič’s office.
The documents to be signed include an agreement on support and mutual protection of investments, a memorandum of understanding between the foreign affairs ministries, an agreement on co-operation between Vietnam’s state audit office and the Supreme Audit Office of Slovakia. TASR
