ANYONE who longs to adopt an abandoned animal from a rescue shelter but cannot afford to take one home, can now adopt a dog virtually.

The civic association Majme srdce (Have a Heart) offers virtual adoption via a regular monthly contribution – the minimum amount is €5 – meant for a specific dog. Those who are interested can contact the association by e-mail through the www.majmesrdce.sk website.

“The crucial point is the regularity of the contribution. Ideally it should be paid until the animal is adopted by a new owner; but the virtual adoption can be ended even earlier, naturally,” the website states. The contributions help to cover fees for veterinary treatment, castration or sterilisation, better food, vaccination and other necessities. The “adoptive parents” will get a certificate confirming their virtual adoption, and their names will be listed on the website next to “their” dog.
A virtual parent can visit his or her dog or to take it for walks, the SITA newswire quoted the website as saying. Dogs can be adopted virtually not just by individuals but also by companies.

Individual or companies can also adopt one or more animals, as well as the other way round – one dog can be adopted by several “parents”.
