Visa-free travel to USA within sight

On March 17, the Hospodárske Noviny economic daily reported that Slovakia is making a crucial step on its path to visa-free travel to the United States.

On March 17, the Hospodárske Noviny economic daily reported that Slovakia is making a crucial step on its path to visa-free travel to the United States.

The daily wrote that Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák is in Washington to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that will open the door to Slovaks, possibly as soon as this autumn.

The memorandum is the final step before the US Embassy in Bratislava releases its all-important assessment on September 30 about the number of rejected visa applications.

Keith Hughes, spokesman for the US Embassy, said it is realistic to expect that the visa regime will be abolished by the end of this year. SITA
