Slovakia considers aid in protecting the Schengen area borders, on a bilateral and multilaterla basis, Slovak PM Robert Fico said on October 7.
“Such a decision has already been made by the Czech government, and we are close to coming to such a conclusion too but we are waiting for more and better cooperation within the V4,” Fico stressed, as quoted by the SITA newswire. Czechs have already promised to send soldiers and sappers’ technology to Hungary. Hungarians have allegedly recently asked for police officers, cars or construction machinery.
Slovakia has set aside €20 million from its 2016 budget for the migration crisis; however, it has not been specified yet how the money will be spent. The money from Slovakia was offered for Frontex operations to protect the outer borders of the European Union, Fico said, but it could also be used for so called hot-spots on the borders, where migrants would be identified to a certain degree and have their fingerprints taken. Prime Minister claimed that this step is one of those that prove Slovakia’s solidarity.
