PETER Vojtek has resigned from his post of the chief of Slovakia’s General Staff of Armed Forces, the Hospodárske Noviny daily reported in its December 27 issue. It is possible he will leave the post in the beginning of 2014.
Neither Defence Minister Martin Glváč, nor Vojtek has confirmed the information to the daily.
According to Hospodárske Noviny Vojtek’s departure is related to the case of the alleged embezzlement in the Military Intelligence Service (VSS) during the rule of first government of Robert Fico (2006-10). Vojtek allegedly had different opinion over solving the situation than Glváč. He even filed a criminal complaint over Katarína Svrčeková, who identified herself as a close friend of former VSS head Roman Mikulec, who told the media that she had been subjected to bullying regarding the allegations of embezzlement.
Vojtek accused her of avoiding the military service since she refused to ask for security clearance in order to leave the intelligence services. According to Hospodárske Noviny, Vojtek filed a complaint based on the recommendation from the ministry.
