The Bratislava-based plant of the German carmaker Volkswagen has been ranked among the Top Ten European employers, receiving the Ruban D'Honneur Award at the European Business Awards, in the category Employer of the Year.

The Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote that it was bonuses, financial contributions for holidays and loans without interest rates that helped the Slovak-based employer to rank among the best in Europe for the first time. "We convinced [the judges] with the high quality of HR services which our employees have at their disposal,” plant’s spokesperson Vladimír Machalík told the daily.

Unions at Volkswagen said that they were also part of the reason that benefits for workers at the carmakers far exceed the Slovak average.
