Production at Volkswagen’s car plant in Bratislava, which had been halted since February 16, was restarted on Wednesday, February 25, the TASR newswire was told by the plant’s trade union leader, Zoroslav Smolinský.
During the interval, when production lines were adjusted for new models and other technical modifications, employees used up days off that they had not taken in 2008. All employees received 100 percent of their salaries during the shutdown, said Volkswagen.
The Economy Ministry stated last week that it had no information that would link the more than week-long shutdown to the current economic crisis. Volkswagen Slovakia produces vehicles, gear-boxes and components for gear-boxes at its facilities in Bratislava and Martin. TASR
