The construction of a Bratislava-based Volkswagen Slovakia (VW SK) press shop worth €90 million was completed on Tuesday, November 20.

"This will be the first press shop in a car manufacturing plant in Slovakia in which not only steel but also aluminium sheets will be pressed," VW SK's chairman of the board of directors Albrecht Reimold announced for the TASR newswire, adding that it will provide jobs for some 100 people. Around 370 workers were participating in the construction, which was launched a year ago. The size of the press shop exceeds 19,000 square metres and its production capacities are set to reach 19,000 pieces a day. Production should be launched at the end of 2013.

The Pravda daily wrote in its Wednesday, November 21, issue that the Bratislava VW plant will begin cancelling some of its shifts, thus reducing the work hours of some employees. In times of peak production this year, the plant was producing as many as 380 cars in a single shift, while currently it is making on average 40 fewer.
