BRATISLAVA-based carmaker Volkswagen (VW) has confirmed it will produce the bodywork for a luxury model SUV from Bentley. The carmaker will start to sell the new car in 2016, the TASR newswire reported on October 24.
VW in Bratislava has already launched construction of a new body shop which costs €600 million where 500 people and 1,000 robots will find jobs. It will produce bodies for new generations of crossovers including, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg.
The Bentley bodies will be transported to a British plant in Crewe to join with hand-made interiors. Unorthodox assembly dictates that the Slovak plant cannot produce the whole car since the steering wheel and seat padding will be custom, reflecting the individual demands of customers, according to TASR.
