Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) election leader Iveta Radičová, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) chairman Richard Sulík, Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) chairman Ján Figeľ and leader of Most-Híd Béla Bugár on Tuesday, June 15, signed a declaration on political co-operation that should result in them forming a new government in the days ahead, the TASR newswire reported.
Radičová, viewed as the only real candidate for the post of premier, said that all four parties would on Wednesday ask President Ivan Gašparovič to receive them, in order to inform him about the agreement they had signed. "We've also agreed upon our priorities – what to focus on, and what to present to the citizens," explained Radičová, who came second in the race for president last year. The centre-right four are also setting up a working commission to collate the materials and basic outlines drafted by each of them, and later to make it public in the form of programme themes, Radičová said, adding that the final version is set to be published on June 22.
When asked whether the centre-right parties have a deadline by which they would like to form a government, Radičová replied that there is no need to hurry. The SDKÚ, SaS, KDH and Most-Híd jointly declared that as future coalition partners they're conscious of the contemporary problems of Slovakia. Because of this, they want to address the problems stemming from the global crisis and the consequences of irresponsible policies introduced by Robert Fico's Government.
