Slovakia's centre-right governing coalition has agreed on the division of posts in its future cabinet, Prime Minister-designate Iveta Radičová announced after a session of the Coalition Council held on Monday, June 28, the SITA newswire reported.
The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) will get the prime minister’s position in the next cabinet and will nominate the ministers of finance, justice, foreign affairs and education. The second largest coalition party – and newcomer on the Slovak political scene – Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), will nominate the ministers of economy, defence, labour and culture. The Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) will get the ministries of interior, transport and health. The fourth member of the coalition, Most-Híd, will nominate the deputy prime minister for human rights and minorities, and the agriculture and environment ministers.
SaS was the first of the coalition parties to state its nominees for government positions on June 29, the Topky.sk news website reported. In line with previous expectations, Juraj Miškov should become the economy minister, Jozef Mihál the minister of labour, Daniel Krajcer the culture minister and Ľubomír Galko the defence minister. Party chairman Richard Sulík intends to become the new speaker of parliament.
