PM Robert Fico is prepared for both: to rule or go to opposition
Shortly after exit poll results have been published at 23:00 on June 12, Prime Minister and chairman of Smer party Robert Fico has said that he is prepared for both: to form the next government or to go to opposition.
Fico has refused to comment on the unofficial preliminary results. He said that only after the official results are announced, his party would decide whether the party goes to opposition or will try to negotiate with other partners the possibility of forming the next government, SITA newswire wrote.
Smer party of Robert Fico has maintained its position as the largest party in the Slovak Parliament following elections held on June 12, according to the results of an exit poll conducted by the MVK polling agency for the private TV channel Markíza.
According to the poll, Smer leads with 28 percent, followed by the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) with 15.8 percent. Third is Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) with 12.4 percent, followed by the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), which has so far received 9.9 percent.
Other parties on course to pass the five percent threshold and thus enter parliament, based on the MVK exit poll, are: Most-Híd at 8.2 percent, Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) at 5.8 percent, Slovak National Party (SNS) at 5.7 percent.
However, the MVK exit poll conducted for Markíza suggests that Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) with 4.7 percent, will not make it into parliament.
