“Criminal prosecution was launched in the case, two crimes are suspected,” Police Corps Vice-President Ľubomír Ábel said to a press conference on March 16, as quoted by the SITA newswire. The suspected crimes are the marring of the elections and the violation of other people’s rights.

The Central Election Commission on the election day took note of an initiative of one Slovak citizen who was trying to prove to other voters that if they want to, they can vote even three times; once using their ID and twice using their passport.

The Commission condemned his conduct, saying that he abused the status of the citizens who do not have permanent residence in Slovakia, and who are allowed to vote in the presidential election without having to prove that their permanent residence is outside Slovakia. They only needed to prove their citizenship with their passport.

If proved guilty, the man could be sentenced to one to five years in prison.

Apart from this incident, the election was one of the calmest from the security perspective, Abel said. The police received 13 motions before the election day, in six of those cases they have launched criminal prosecution. It is mostly cases of harming other persons’ possessions, in connection with the billboards, or cases of badmouthing.

During the election night, the police recorded 10 motions and started criminal prosecution in four of them.
