Three coalition parties, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Most-Híd are said to be inclined to the idea of uniting the vote on the European Financial Stability Mechanism (EFSM) with a confidence vote in the government, the TASR newswire reported.
“This is one of the options,” said the deputy chair of the KDH party Pavol Abrhan, as quoted by TASR.
The chair of Most-Híd party, Béla Bugár, added that this possibility will be discussed by the Coalition Council on August 12. According to Bugár, the campaign started by the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party is fighting against the EFSM with a brochure, has increased the tension within the coalition, as the parties had agreed that they wouldn’t use the issue of the EFSM for the purpose of running a campaign. Bugár claims that it isn’t possible to hold out long in the atmosphere currently prevailing within the coalition.
“I view it as unfair that SaS [released a brochure aimed against the EFSM] one or two days after the agreement was made,” Bugár said, as quoted by TASR. “The brochure offends representatives of the EU. We cannot say that the EFSM represent a path to socialism.”
SaS protested against such accusations levelled by ‘certain partners’ of violating an internal coalition agreement on not making any statements about the EFSM.
