Outgoing Judicial Council and Supreme Court Chairman Štefan Harabin has set the date for a new vote on a new Supreme Court chairman for September 16, the last possible day. The vote is to be held in Spišské Hanušovce at 14:00.
Harabin sought re-election in the first vote in May, but like two other candidates - Zuzana Ďurišová and Jana Bajánkov8 – was not elected. As a result, none of the three can run again in the second round. However, should the second round fail to produce a new Supreme Court chair, all three will be able to enter the subsequent third round.
When asked by the TASR newswire whether he’d be interested in running if no hopeful is elected this time, Harabin replied that he won’t engage in speculation. “And what if someone is elected?” he asked.
Harabin's term as Supreme Court Chairman expires on June 22. Until the new chair is elected, the court will be headed by vice-chair Jarmila Urbancová.
After the last election took place in Sobrance on Slovak-Ukrainian border, the September one will take place in a village on the Polish border, the Sme daily wrote. Mayor Jozef Dudžák didn’t know about the location of the vote and learned about it from the internet. It seems that the election will take place in local boarding house residing in a mansion, the Sme daily wrote.
