Volkswagen's plant in Bratislava restarts production on May 18, the TASR newswire was told by the company's spokesman Vladimír Machalík. Production at the factory was suspended for the entire previous week as a consequence of the global economic crisis, following two other manufacturing interruptions between February 16-25 and April 6-17.
“Both production lines at the Volkswagen Slovakia plant in Bratislava will restart on Monday morning. The company used the interruption to prepare the plant for production of the new small family cars,” said Machalík.
The new thrifty models should start coming off the production line in Bratislava in early 2011. The VW plant in Martin has continued to turn out gearboxes during last week’s production interruption in Bratislava. TASR
