Volkswagen Slovakia made a profit of €283.5 million last year, representing a 25.9-percent increase compared to 2007, the carmaker announced in Bratislava on Wednesday, March 18.
More than 187,000 vehicles rolled out of the plant last year, of which 90 percent were sports utility vehicles (SUVs). However, the number of cars produced represents a fall compared to 2007, when 249,000 cars were manufactured at the plant, the TASR wrote.
According to VW SK management board chairman and Bratislava CEO Andreas Tostmann, this drop was due not just to a fall in demand, but also because of the launch of production of the Skoda Octavia at the plant. The plant also manufactured 362,000 gearboxes in 2008, which is roughly the same number as in 2007. TASR
