SLOVAKIA'S Interior Ministry announced a public tender for the installation of a new security system on the Slovak-Ukrainian border. Aspiring companies should submit a proposal including a construction project for the border's technical and physical protection.
The winner will supply a border security system designated to prevent illegal border crossings in compliance with the Schengen Treaty requirements, the SITA news agency wrote.
The system will include electronic security equipment, data transmission devices, special mobile equipment and further software and hardware to secure information sharing as well as technical supplies, staff training and border surveillance methodology.
The first qualifying round of the tender will examine whether candidates fulfil the participation criteria. After that, successful candidates will present their actual bids.
The ministry expects the tender to be completed by the end of November and the system in place one month later to meet the December 14, 2006, deadline.
