The town of Medzilaborce (Prešov region) got a visit from the pop-art icon’s brother, John Warhola, Andy Warhol Society (AWS) president Michal Bycko told the TASR newswire.
Warhola also helped found the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art, located in Medzilaborce.
Warhola, who is also vice-president of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts in New York and honorary president of the AWS in Medzilaborce, was in town for a working visit. The trip was to culminate on September 10 with talks with town officials and the museum's management.
"John Warhola will certainly be interested how the finances that the museum receives from the U.S. foundation are used effectively," Bycko said.
The museum obtains $12,000-25,000 per year from the foundation, he added.
Warhol's parents were both from the Medzilaborce area, but they emigrated to the United States before the artist was born in 1928. Warhol died in 1987.
