The Aliancia Fair-Play (AFP) watchdog called on presidential candidates in the March 15 election to publish more information on their property and assets, business interests and income.
AFP urged candidates to provide more information than what is required by election law. On March 11, they say just three candidates accepted the call: Pavol Hrušovský, Andrej Kiska and Milan Kňažko. Voters can check their detailed property returns at politikaopen.sk. Other presidential candidates offer the electorate either no information at all, or very limited ones, thus making it impossible for citizens to check on them and on how honestly they execute their position in the future, AFP wrote in a press release.
“We have shockingly low demands on presidential candidates,” said Zuzana Wienk of Aliancia Fair-Play. “And the law does not require any openness towards voters before elections.”
Candidates Gyula Bárdos, Jozef Behýl, Ján Čarnogurský, Viliam Fisher, Ján Jurišta, Stanislav Martinčko, Milan Melník and Jozef Šimko offer no information to voters on these issues. Robert Fico, Helena Mezenská and Radoslav Procházka offer very limited information on their property and financial interests through the parliamentary website, AFP wrote. Procházka promised to participate in the politikaopen project, but did not complete the form, failing to fill in the data on his real estate holdings.
