The Interior Ministry has published statistics about the most popular names that parents have chosen for their children in 2023 (so far).
With just a few exceptions, the girl's name Sofia and the boy's name Jakub have dominated the lists since 2010 – and this year is no exception. In the case of the former, Sofia was overtaken by Ema in 2020 and Nina in 2021, while in the case of the latter, Adam was preferred over Jakub in 2014 and 2015.
When it comes to girls, other popular names this year included Eliška, Viktória, Nina and Natália. For boys, the other top-ranking names were Samuel, Adam, Šimon and Michal.
There has been a slight long-term shift in preferences: between 2003 and 2009, Viktória and Samuel both consistently occupied the first places.
