THE ROOFTOP of a communist-era residential high rise in Košice has been selected as a rather curious pedestal for a folk architecture monument.
Three traditional wooden houses from Liptovská Teplička and Párnica were erected on top of one of Kosice’s 12-storey ‘panelaks’ in the Furča neighbourhood on September 27.
Artist Tomáš Džadoň called it a small miracle that he and his team managed to realise this financially and technically demanding work of art in a public space, in an interview with the Sme daily.
The monument is not accessible from the rooftop, as Džadoň feels it is important that citizens and visitors of Košice see it from their windows.
The houses and the steel construction upon which they stand weigh altogether 40 tonnes. They should remain on the roof for at least two years, according to Sme.
