Work on D1 stretch resumes, with Kurimany bridge still under investigation

Construction work on the Jánovce-Jablonov stretch of the D1 highway in Prešov Region, interrupted due to the fatal collapse of a half-completed motorway bridge between the villages of Kurimany and Iliašovce on November 2, resumed on Thursday, December 6.

However, work on the collapsed bridge itself remains suspended as the investigation into the incident, in which 4 people were killed, is still in progress. "Debris is being removed at the site under the supervision of investigators," reported National Highway Company (NDS) spokesperson Marcel Jánošík as quoted by the TASR newswire.

The spokesman added that road-building – except for the bridge – was resumed by an order issued by the NDS on December 5, which was itself based on a decision by Transport Minister Ján Počiatek.
