A STUDENT at the Secondary Vocational School on Gemerská Street in Košice, Lukáš Očenáš, received Slovakia’s first victory at the world championship of hairstyling. At the end of September, he won in the Individual Hairdressing World Championship sponsored by OMC, the Organisation Mondiale Coiffure, as part of the InterCharm hair show in Milan, Italy.
Očenáš, who hails from the town of Michalovce, is a two-time winner of the Slovak hairstyling championship and in March 2011 he was crowned the European champion in Dublin. Očenáš competed in the most difficult category in Milan – Technical Combinations – in which a hairstylist must create a daywear style in 20 minutes without a single hairpin and follow that with an evening style in 40 minutes, also without a pin.
The international jury evaluates the contestants on originality, cleanliness and the overall styling of the model, the TASR newswire wrote. Očenáš received the top prize in the Creative Ladies category and finished second in the Hair by Night category. The Association of Hairstylists of Slovakia had assembled a four-member team for the championship in Milan.
In preparation for the championship, Očenáš was trained by Joachim Wolf, a multiple world champion, in Vienna as well as at his school, where he studies under Mariana Sedláková.
