POLICE arrested a 17-year-old who had been threatening to assassinate President Rudolf Schuster.
A young student, Michal D. from Bratislava, sent an e-mail to the president's office in early November that stated: "An assasination will be carried out on you. When you are dead you will not bother anyone anymore."
The president's security team determined that the e-mail had been sent through a Slovak Internet service provider, and that it came from a connection used by Slovak elementary and secondary schools.
One month later, Michal D. wrote again, apologizing that he had not fulfilled his earlier promise because he had fallen ill.
"I am physically indisposed. My friend from Kuwait sent me a shooter gun called she-bear. Everything is prepared and as soon as I feel better after [treating myself with] some lemons, a nice presidential grave will be built at some cemetery."
Security units were alarmed by the e-mails and Ján Packa, head of the president's security team, said that dozens of police were involved in tracking down the teenage perpetrator.
Michal D. told Nový Čas daily that today he regretted his deed.
"I am sorry that I sent such e-mails," he said.
