SOLDIERS who fought against Hitler's troops in the last world war are to receive an average one-off compensation of Sk30,000 ($600).
More than 20,000 soldiers who fought as part of the allied forces or as partisans in Slovakia between 1939 and 1945 will receive the payments over the next three years.
"It's high time these people were given financial compensation, considering their average age is 80," said MP Štefan Rusnák.
The payments will come from individual political parties' own funds as well as the state budget.
