The massive engines of Yamaha Royal Venture touring motorcycles from all over Europe thundered across the Upper Nitra region as more than 70 bikers presented themselves and their mechanical beasts at a parade through the streets of Prievidza and Bojnice. In the nearby Púšť holiday resort, the 15th European meeting of Yamaha enthusiast clubs took place for the first time in Slovakia between July 9 and July 11, hosted by the Venture Club Slovakia.
Bikers from 15 European countries, including Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark and one rider from Moscow, throttled into the Upper Nita region with their shiny and sometimes strangely decorated machines. The drivers ranged in age, with the oldest participant being 78, the TASR newswire wrote. The residents of Prievidza got the chance to more closely examine the motorcycles as they were parked in the town centre near Freedom Square.
Marian Jurkovič from Handlová, an organiser of the event who proudly owns a Yamaha Royal Venture said that the meeting attracted the real elite of motor bikers. Jurkovič has travelled together with his wife across many European countries and said that riding his bike represents not just fun and a means of travelling and making friends, but also a lifestyle with “the wind in one’s hair evoking the feeling of freedom”. Going by the biker nickname Padre, Jurkovič commented that “the most beautiful view is – as the saying has it – from the saddle of a horse, but the fairest and most accurate view is from a motorbike”.
