The year-on-year decline in retail sales softened in May according to data from Slovakia’s Statistics Office which showed retail sales reached €1.412 billion in May, down 3.1 percent year-on-year compared to a 5.4-percent y-o-y decrease reported in April, the SITA newswire reported.
The development in May is primarily attributable to a 10.3-percent drop of sales of other goods in specialised outlets. Sales of motor fuels plummeted by 4.6 percent and sales in non-specialized outlets fell by 0.2 percent. Retail sales of goods for households in specialised outlets rose by 4.4 percent y-o-y, SITA wrote. Retail sales dropped 2.8 percent in annual terms to €6.633 billion in the January-May period.
