The recently selected director of Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS), Miroslava Zemková, and nine members of the media council received their letters of appointment from Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulík (Freedom and Solidarity (SaS)) on Thursday, February 17.
The members of the media council subsequently met at the constituent session of the RTVS Council, at which they elected Miroslav Kollár as chairman and Andrej Miklánek as vice-chairman in a secret vote. Lots were drawn to determine the length of terms for individual members of the council, with Dora Hushegyiová, Martin Kabát and Andrej Miklánek drawing six years, Vladimir Slovák, Ildikó Nagy and Michal Jesenko four years, and Miroslav Kollár, Milan Antol and Vladimír Talian two years each. The first ordinary session of the RTVS Council should take place within three weeks, the TASR newswire wrote.
The letters-of-appointment ceremony was also attended by Culture Minister Daniel Krajcer (SaS) and several coalition members of the parliamentary media committee. No opposition MPs were present.
