MEMBER of Parliament Rudolf Žiak joined the non-parliamentary Movement for Democracy (HZD) November 15, the SITA news agency wrote.
President Ivan Gašparovič created the HZD after he and a group of other former Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) MPs had left the party because of Vladimír Mečiar's authoritative leadership style.
Žiak, also a former HZDS member, left the HZDS to join another party formed by HDZS mavericks - the People Union (ĽÚ). Žiak quit the ĽÚ at the beginning of November because he disagreed with the party's parliamentary support for draft bills produced by the ruling coalition, which he argued were against the ĽÚ's program.
