The Hospodárske Noviny daily reported on Thursday that the party's level of support had fallen below 4 percent since the general election on March 10, when the SDKÚ recorded 6.1 percent. "We had the poll done in order to determine the party's voter-support and also to see whether I have the potential to help the party," Žitňanská said, as quoted by the TASR newswire, adding that the poll was carried out shortly after the election, when she was the only candidate for party leader. Although the daily reported that the poll had found support of less than 4 percent for the SDKÚ, Žitňanská refused to specify the exact figure.

"The figures for the party aren't good, but I understand them. We're at the stage at which we haven't shown anything yet and we're currently dealing with ourselves. This has to stop on the day of the congress on May 19 [when the leadership election will take place]," she stated. Žitňanská further said that the party might have another poll carried out in the run-up to the national congress. Future polls, however, will incorporate the other candidates, Pavol Frešo and Viliam Novotný.
