Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská has filed proposals for disciplinary action against two judges suspected of delaying court proceedings, ministry spokesman Peter Bubla told the TASR newswire on Tuesday, December 20.
Žitňanská's initiative against the unnamed judges at Bratislava District Courts I and II was prompted by complaints from parties involved in the respective cases. The minister has proposed that the salaries of the two judges be cut by half for a period of three months.
According to Žitňanská, the judge at Bratislava I District Court was completely inactive with respect to one court dispute between September 2009 and March 2011, thereby causing an unjustified 18-month delay in the proceedings. The other judge is facing disciplinary proceedings after failing to adhere to a legally stipulated deadline of 30 days for drawing up a written version of a court judgment; instead, the judge took eight months to produce the judgement.
