MP LUCIA Žitňanská, who formerly served as the head of the parliamentary caucus of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), has joined the Most-Híd party, the TASR newswire reported.
Under an agreement that she reportedly struck with the party led by Béla Bugár, former two-time justice minister Žitňanská is slated to be appointed as Most-Híd's vice-chair for justice in September.
"She sees realistic chances in Most-Híd for pursuing civil society policies and focusing on reforms in the judiciary," TASR quoted a source close to Most-Hid who wished to remain anonymous.
The party is currently working on a programme that will bring its policies “closer to people” and that will “address the woes plaguing common people”.
Žitňanská ran unsuccessfully for SDKÚ's top post in May 2012, losing in the second round to Pavol Frešo, who has headed the party since. She left SDKÚ in December 2013 along with fellow MPs Magdaléna Vašáryová and Miroslav Beblavý.
Žitňanská’s joining the party should be discussed at the party’s board session on April 8.
