Slovakia’s top hockey league, Tipos Extraliga, will introduce a new format for the regular season starting in 2024/2025.
The 12 participating teams will face each other in a four-round robin. Additionally, teams will play 10 more games (home and away games against five opponents) within two conferences, writes The Slovak Spectator’s sister publication Sportnet.
The Eastern Conference will include Košice, Poprad, Michalovce, Spišská Nová Ves, Žilina, and Liptovský Mikuláš. The Western Conference will consist of Bratislava, Trenčín, Nitra, Nové Zámky, Zvolen, and Banská Bystrica.
These conference games will replace the regional rounds from the previous season.
Compared to last season, where teams played 50 games in the regular season, the new season will feature 54 games.
The new season is set to start on September 20. The last-placed team will once again be relegated and replaced by the winner of the SHL.
