However, the biggest snag came in the 42nd minute of the match, according to the TASR newswire, when the Sparta ultras broke the rails and the barriers dividing the sectors of away and home fans, and started beating Slovan fans.
Players, coaches and other staffers were sent to safety within the stadium, while the security company supposed to guard the match failed and special police unit had to be called in. The match could continue after a 40-minute break.
RTVS commentator, Ľuboš Hlavena, had to flee his booth – which was only a few metres away form the incident. His colleague, former football international Szilárd Németh who watched the events from the field, said “I am glad I am alive”, as quoted by the Sme daily.
The good news is that nobody was injured, at least the medical service reported no injuries and no drives to hospital. The bad new is, according to the sport.aktuality.sk website, that both football clubs may faces punishments or fines by the international football authorities, and the host club, Slovan, may even not be allowed to let fans in for the next match, with the Swiss club Bern.
