A trio of Czech hikers has breathed life into a run-down mountain chalet after coming across it on a winter holiday.
The Smrekovica mountain chalet, which was once owned by Ružomberok paper mills, had fallen into disrepair after closing five years ago, when Martin Sikora and two friends came across it as they hiked across the Veľká Fatra mountains.

The three friends from the Czech Republic fell in love with the place and decided to buy it.
"At the end of our hike, we came across the Smrekovica mountain hut, which had been out of service for several years and was gradually falling into disrepair. The layout of the cottage is well designed and it is located in a magical place," said Sikora.
The 5,000 square metre complex is located on the edge of the Skalná Alpa nature reserve in the Močidlo area below the peak of Veľká Fatra, north Slovakia.
