In Lučenec and the surrounding area, people were attracted by the crosses on the trees. They appeared in the town, near villages, even in the mountains.
They are related to an event that will premiere in the Novohrad region in the south of central Slovakia. The Extreme Way of the Cross, also popular abroad, is scheduled for March 8.
The route of St. Father Pius of Pietrelcina with 14 stops is marked by the crosses.
Anyone can be a pilgrim, regardless of whether or not they are religious. However, it is important not to underestimate their strength, because it is a 36.4-kilometre route with an elevation gain of 946 metres.
"This is a night trip, during which the weather can change at any time. We have completed it more than once in a heavy downpour and wind. It's exceptional in that people wander quietly, immersed in their thoughts and meditating," explained Vincent Hoľpit, leader of the Extreme Way of the Cross, which, according to him, is one of the fastest developing spiritual activities in the world.
"In essence, it's a new form of spirituality," he added.
