Last year almost 245,000 people visited the Slovak National Museum – Spiš Museum in Levoča. The biggest attraction of the museum, Spiš Castle, opened from March 26 to November 18 and about 211,500 visitors walked through its gates. That is about 1,000 fewer visitors than in 2017, said Dáša Uharčeková Pavúková from the museum.
The events that accompanied the programme at the castle were successful. Almost 47,500 people attended the Summer cultural festival at the castle. Other successful events were the opening of the summer tourist season, the night of museums, theatre on Fridays and others.
Museum in Levoča – historical townhall, the House of Master Pavol and other exhibition halls lured more than 33,000 people.
The big investment began at Spiš Castle in September 2018, the first reconstruction phase, especially the engineering network and the captain’s house. The work should take about 18 months.
Spiš Castle is closed during the winter, to open again when weather allows. The ceremonial opening of summer tourist season is planned for May 4 and visitors can look forward to a rich programme in the new season.
