These are the top Žilina Region sights of 2023

More than 160,000 visitors paid to enter the number one sight.

The most visited sight of the Žilina Region (ŽSK) in 2023 was Orava Castle.

More than 160,000 paying visitors came to see the exhibition of the Orava Museum, which is housed in the castle, confirmed ŽSK spokesperson Eva Lacová for the TASR newswire.

In 2023, a total of 644,322 paying visitors visited cultural sites in the region. Compared to 2022, this is an increase of 76,698 people.

"Overall, the structures of the Orava Museum recorded the highest number of visitors. Orava Castle had 163,402 paying visitors and the Orava Forest Railway 35,331. The third most visited was the Slanický Island of Art managed by the Orava Gallery, which was visited by 50,894 tourists," explained Lacová for TASR.

The Žilina Region is made up of several smaller tourism regions, such as Turiec and Kysuce.

Strečno Castle was one of the most visited structures in the Horné Považie region in 2023 with 45,817 tourists. The second most visited was Budatín Castle and the third was the Žilina Puppet Theatre.

In Kysuce, the structures of the Kysuce Museum in Čadca were the most successful. According to Lacová, the Kysuce Village Open-Air Museum was viewed by 19,088 visitors and the Historic Forest Headland Railway by 24,570 visitors. The third most visited was the Kysucké cultural centre in Čadca.

"In the Liptov region, the Liptov Village Open-Air Museum in Pribylina was the most sought-after, with 45,646 paying visitors," said the ŽSK spokesperson. The first three also include Roľnícky Dom A Dvor Vlkolínec (open-air museum) with 25,809 visits, and the Liptovská Gallery of Peter Michal Bohúň in Liptovský Mikuláš.

Last year, it was ranked among the most visited galleries in the region.

In Turiec, people most often visited the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin, with 33,543 paying visitors.
