In the village of Krásnohorské Podhradie in the Rožňava district, a parking lot with spots for 15 cars will be built and a visitors’ centre established, the TASR newswire wrote on July 28. This will enhance the availability and attractiveness of the mausoleum of the married Andrássy couple.
“This will increase the rate of visitors to the mausoleum, the average spending of a visitor, and prolong the time of their stay in this locality,” Lenka Vargová Jurková, CEO of the Košice Región Turizmus/Košice Region Tourism board told TASR. According to her, a new job position will also be created and knowledge of the mausoleum will be improved.
In the long term, the Andoras civic association is striving to create an additional exhibition that would tell more – including the very end – about the story of the mausoleum and its builders, including the mysterious statue of a their dog.
Total expenses for implementing the project are €45,460, while several institutions and authorities will contribute: the Košice Region, the Slovak National Museum – Museum Betliar (which operates the mausoleum) and the Andoras civic association.
“The Košice Region can, thanks to the Terra Incognita programme, also support those tourism subjects which cannot vie for a grant, a subsidy or financing through other schemes,” Vargová Jurková said. She added that the reconstruction of Krásna Hôrka Castle has negatively impacted the tourism in the village and the whole region. “Thus, it is necessary to support projects with the potential to create another, alternative offer for visitors who come to the region or who are already there.”
