On Wednesday, October 28, morning, Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič appointed Jozef Medveď as the new Environment Minister, the SITA newswire wrote.
Prime Minister Robert Fico decided to take the ministry away from the Slovak National Party which was authorised to name the minister based on the governing coalition agreement from 2006.
Deputy Prime Minister Dušan Čaplovič has served as the acting environment minister since August, when the SNS nominee Viliam Turský was sacked due to controversial cases at the department. Medveď has worked as the Rector at the Banking Institute/College of Banking in Banská Bystrica and has been nominated by Smer. SITA
