The coalition council comprising Slovakia’s four centre-right parliamentary parties met on Tuesday, June 22, to continue discussion about the content of their joint governing programme, the SITA newswire wrote.
Representatives of the four parties, who emerged from the June 12 general election with 79 seats in the 150-member parliament, say they intend to present to the public the programme they have now been discussing for a week behind closed doors.
After about ten hours of negotiations on Tuesday between representatives of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), and Most-Híd, SDKÚ election leader Iveta Radičová announced that the priority of the four parties would be consolidation of the public finances, reform of compulsory levies, changes in the judicial system, the fight against corruption and immediate aid for flood-stricken Slovaks.
She said the parties had not reached agreement on issues like conscientious objection on religious grounds to state regulations, the relationship between and church and state, registered same-sex partnerships, decriminalisation of marijuana, and a law on minorities. As a result, these points would not be included in the government manifesto, Radičová said, as quoted by the Sme daily on its website.
