Slovak Cardinal Tomko meets President Lukashenko in Belarus

Slovak Cardinal Jozef Tomko met the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, who stated that relations between Belarus's Catholic and Orthodox believers are at a very good level, the TASR newswire was told by the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry on October 11. Tomko, as a special envoy of Pope Benedict XVI, has been in Belarus since October 7. During his visit Tomko also met Belarus's Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Martynov, discussing the issue of bilateral relations between Belarus and the Vatican as well as the possibility of signing a treaty between Belarus and the Roman Catholic Church in the country.
