SUPREME Audit Office (NKÚ) has found 10,871 violations of directives and filed 2,850 recommendations for bodies operating with state money on how to manage their activities more effectively since 2012. As a result those who were inspected have adopted 5,397 measures.
In 2013 NKÚ scrutinised 268 institutions, organisations, towns and municipalities. It plans to inspect 556 of them this year, according to the TASR newswire.
“NKÚ is not sanctioning body, it files even criminal complaints in cases when it discovers serious shortcomings requiring immediate intervention during its inspections,” NKÚ spokeswoman Iveta Bieliková said, as quoted by TASR. She said the office has filed 61 criminal complaints in the last six years.
The public has been especially interested in management of State Material Reserves, Matica Slovenská, Slovakia’s oldest cultural heritage institution, Interior Ministry public tenders, drawing funds from EU’s Operational Programme Research, Development and Innovation or contracts of doctors who work simultaneously at several positions, according to Bieliková.
