Rusnák fined for offensive statements

DÁRIUS Rusnák, the head of the Presidential Office’s public relations division, did not commit the crime of defaming a nation or race when he verbally assaulted two women for speaking Hungarian in the Prezidentka bar in Bratislava, a police investigator said. Moody’s and Fitch downgrade SPP rating

TWO INTERNATIONAL agencies have downgraded the rating of Slovenský Plynárenský Priemysel (SPP) after the state became its sole owner on June 4. While Moody’s downgraded the issuer rating to Baa3 from Baa1 with a stable outlook, Fitch decreased the Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) in foreign and domestic currency to BBB- with a stable outlook from A-, the SITA newswire reported on June 6.

Four teenagers died in bus accident

Rules for second pillar payments set

PARLIAMENT passed at its June 5 session rules for the payment of pensions for the first 3,000 seniors who will start drawing them from the second, private pensions pillar next year. The amendment to the pension law was supported by 101 MPs, while seven were against and 20 abstained from the vote, the SITA newswire reported.

IN MID APRIL the Pontis Foundation handed out the 14th annual awards for companies doing businesses in a responsible way. The ceremony took place on April 10 in Bratislava while it had the form of a theatrical performance featuring also a Down-syndrome affected actor. The jury selected winners from among 52 nominations. “What we are trying to achieve by awards in Slovakia is often a matter of course in developed countries,” Pavel Hrica of the Pontis Foundation said, as cited in the press release. “We want to set this norm also in Slovakia, and companies already feel such expectations from their surroundings.”There were seven categories in the 2013 Via Bona Slovakia Awards, reflecting the continuing development of corporate responsibility and corporate philanthropy in Slovakia. Slovakia to be removed from EDP

SLOVAKIA is likely to be taken out of the excessive deficit procedure (EDP) programme.The European Commission recommended on June 2 that the Council of the EU should drop the EDP programme for six countries: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria and Slovakia.

NGOs receive €25 million

TAXPAYERS sent almost €25 million to non-profit organisations, foundations and other similar organisations within a 2-percent allocation scheme from income and corporate taxes they paid for 2013, according to the Financial Administration. This sum might increase as the administration has not processed all income tax returns and some entities have postponed their deadlines for submitting tax returns, the TASR newswire wrote.
