František Šebej, a member of the four-member Civic Conservative Party (OKS) faction in parliament, has left the party in protest at its decision to refuse to support the government in a crucial vote on the eurozone bailout mechanism. Šebej, who along with the other OKS MPs was elected in 2010 on the slate of the Most-Híd party, will remain a member of Most-Híd, the TASR newswire wrote.
As of Wednesday, October 12, he said he did not know how his three former party colleagues, MPs Peter Zajac, Peter Osuský and Ondrej Dostál, would act in parliament. The Most-Híd caucus hinted, however, that it would be hard to cooperate and deal with MPs who did not support Prime Minister Radičová. Šebej left the OKS on Tuesday, October 11, after finding himself the sole faction member to support both the EFSF bailout fund and the current government of Prime Minister Iveta Radičová.
“I don’t know, we have not discussed this matter yet,” OKS chair Zajac said, as quoted by TASR, when asked whether the three remaining OKS members would stay in the Most-Híd caucus or become independent MPs. Zajac added their stance and reactions would depend on how the situation developed.
