As Slovakia marks Easter from Friday, 18 April to Monday, 21 April 2025, shoppers should brace for changes in supermarket opening hours. The majority of food retailers will remain closed on public holidays, with doors open only on Maundy Thursday and Holy Saturday. Several stores will extend hours on these two days, particularly on Saturday, to accommodate increased demand.
Here is a detailed overview of Easter opening hours at Slovakia’s major supermarket chains:
Billa
Billa shops will remain closed on Friday, Sunday, and Monday. However, customers can shop on Holy Saturday during standard Saturday hours, which vary by location. An exception is the Viva Billa outlets found at petrol stations – these will stay open throughout the holidays, offering basic groceries daily.
Coop Jednota
Coop Jednota stores will open exclusively on Holy Saturday, and hours may vary by region. Notably, Coop 24/7 unmanned shops—available in towns such as Handlová, Prievidza, Nové Zámky, Šaľa, Šurany and Senica—will remain open throughout the holiday. Access requires a mobile app registration.
Kaufland
Kaufland supermarkets will open only on Holy Saturday, with extended hours from 6:30 to 21:30, except for Bratislava’s Avion and Danubia branches. Like Lidl, Kaufland stores will open earlier and close later on the Thursday before Easter.
Kraj
Kraj stores will not adjust their schedules beyond what is legally required. They will be closed on the main holidays and open on Holy Saturday as per their regular Saturday hours.
Lidl
Lidl stores will also close on the key holidays – Friday, Sunday, and Monday. On Holy Saturday, they will be open from 6:30 to 21:30, longer than usual. Extended hours are also planned for the preceding Thursday.
Malina
The Bratislava-based Malina supermarket chain has announced its Easter holiday hours, offering some relief to residents looking to shop over the long weekend. According to information published on its website, the majority of Malina outlets across the capital will remain open throughout the Easter period. Only three of its stores will close temporarily.
Terno
Terno supermarkets will welcome shoppers only on Holy Saturday with standard opening hours, which depend on the store’s location. All other days will see closures.
Tesco
Tesco outlets across the country will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. The only exception is its petrol stations, which will operate on a reduced schedule (7:00 to 19:00), excluding the Komárno site. On Holy Saturday, stores open at 6:00 and run until their usual local closing times. Tesco Express shops and online delivery services will operate normally on Saturday.
Whether planning a traditional Easter meal or simply stocking up on essentials, shoppers in Slovakia are encouraged to check local store listings for exact opening times — and to do so ahead of the long weekend.
