CANADIAN company Alcan Extruded Products will make aluminium casts in Levice, southern Slovakia. Its subsidiary Alan Slovensko Extrusions opened the new plant on May 15. The plant, whose construction was launched in July 2006, will supply the growing Eastern European market with soft alloys. Alcan expects the demand in this market to grow five percent on average. The plant's construction costs came to $35 million. Reinhard Fleer, CEO of Alcan Extruded Products told the SITA news wire that the company plans to produce a wide spectrum of casts for the automotive industry, construction or transport in a new plant in the Levice-Géňa industrial park.
When it reaches full operation, the new plant should produce 25,000 tonnes of aluminium products in the future, representing an output of about €50 million. The plant should achieve optimal capacity in three to four years. Currently, the planirty people, but full operation will require a staff of 200. Fleer said that building a new plant in Slovakia is part of Alcan's strategy to participate in the emerging markets of Eastern Europe.
