Average wages continue on the upswing

A total of 2.014 million people in Slovakia worked in the first half of this year on average, a 0.2 percent annual decline from the same period last year, according to the latest monthly data released by the Slovak Statistical Bureau.

Average wages grew to 8,622 Sk at the end of June, an 8.1 percent annual increase in real terms from the end of June 1996, when wages stood at 7,355 Sk.

The share of private sector to total output in the first seven months of this year was growing in all sectors of the economy, save construction. The highest growth in the private sector was recorded by the retail industry and in the agricultural sector. In the processing industrial sector, share of sales was 72.1 percent , and in the construction sector it was 81.7 percent.
